I’m Adam.

This August, I’ll be running 215 miles coast‑to‑coast across Scotland, starting at Portpatrick, on the west coast, all the way to Cockburnspath on the east. This fundraising page supports the vital work of the First Aid Support Team (FAST). The charity FAST are a grassroots group of international volunteer nurses, doctors and paramedics providing basic first aid to displaced people around the border in northern France.

I was fortunate to spend 4 months volunteering with FAST last winter and saw how often people came with injuries, infections and burns. My time spent as a member of the FAST team showed me the positive impact that simple, hands‑on first aid can make: Immediate relief from the pain caused by blisters on the feet, or cleaning and dressing wounds caused by diesel burns during a shipwreck. FAST team members offer non-judgmental, supportive care, and can also refer patients to the medical centre for treatment.  No one should be left without basic medical care when they’re hurt or sick- and the volunteers at FAST provide this 6 days a week, all year round. Every donation helps cover the cost of petrol for the FAST vehicle, and essential resources such as wound dressings, vitamins, feminine hygiene products and toiletries. These are the materials that enable FAST to deliver medical aid where it is needed most.

This run will be further than I’ve ever gone before – by quite a long way- more than double the distance of my previous longest-ever run.  I am excited about the challenge and adventure, time in the hills is where I feel most at peace. I’ve met some great people through my work in healthcare, and running has introduced me to a generous, open‑hearted, fun‑loving community. This is a chance to bring those two worlds together. I don’t take for granted the freedom and safety to get outside, explore and run.

My wife Sammy and I moved to Scotland last spring, and this adventure will be a great way to see a lot more of this wild, rugged country. I’ll be fuelled by stubbornness, coffee and an irresponsible number of peanut butter and jam sandwiches

If you’re able, I’d really appreciate your support – whether that’s a donation, a message, or simply sharing this page. Thank you.
